After more than a decade working with architecture firms in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, across residential, commercial, and heritage projects, Waltz Studio was founded by Lindy Shaw as a personal and creatively focused practice.

Lindy's early years working in heritage and sustainable Architecture formed a lasting appreciation for restraint, proportion, contextual sensitivity, and enduring materials - principals that continue to inform her work today.
She is experienced in concept development through to construction documentation, including development approvals (DA), consultant coordination, and building approvals (BA).
Over the past decade, Lindy has contributed to a broad range of residential, commercial, and heritage projects while working with practices including Riddel Architecture, Conrad Gargett (now Architectus), David Hanson, and Studio Workshop, before founding Waltz Studio.
Alongside architectural work, Lindy also founded We Are Waltz, a homewares brand which has featured in Australian publications Habitus and HOUSES and New Zealand design publication Homestyle, and continues to influence the studio’s philosophy and visual language.
Projects
Curated small projects are at the heart of the studio’s current direction. Carefully considered renovations, secondary dwellings/ cabins, retreats, and small spaces designed with strong identity and atmosphere.
These projects prioritise feeling over convention and boldness over blandness, creating spaces that feel layered and immersive.

The
Environment
Working within heritage architecture shaped an understanding that buildings carry memory, identity, and cultural value. Preservation is not simply about protecting the old, but about recognising what already exists, understanding its significance, and adapting it thoughtfully so it can continue to be useful and meaningful over time.
Lindy's interest in permaculture has further shaped the way she thinks about how we live within environments. It encourages questions around sufficiency, restraint, and interconnectedness:
What is enough?
What is sustainable - in term of materials, volume, cost, maintenance, your own energy input?
How much or how little do we actually need to build for us to live beautifully?
How can spaces serve multiple uses or purposes over time?
How can built environments engage more generously with nature and seasonal rhythms?

Waltz Studio focuses on curated small-scale projects including secondary dwellings, cabins, retreat spaces, renovations and additions across SE Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Services include creative direction, concept design, DA and BA documentation, consultant coordination and approval assistance.
The studio works on only a limited number of projects at any one time, allowing for a more personal, collaborative, and carefully considered design process.
